Being Able to show the world who you are.

"Being a Negro in America means trying to smile when you want to cry. It means trying to hold on to physical life amid psychological death. It means the pain of watching your children grow up with clouds of inferiority in their mental skies. It means having their legs off, and then being condemned for being a cripple." Where Do We Go From Here 1967.

Slamming Slam Poem

You want me to sell something of myself,

You may think that I will sell my strength,

Strength may be bought,

but I'm not selling.

My strength becomes me, with every-

thing I do,
whether it ,
Be
picking up

bags in the morning,

Getting myself off

The bus when we get to school,

Leaning in my chair

in every class.
My strength shows,

 bequeathed me,

from my grandfather,

To my dad,
from him to me,
And I_
shall pass it to my children,

As the gene cycle

continues,

And the circle
 of life keeps cycling.

So,

you may be able to find strength

Somewhere,

But not here.

My strength is here to stay.

I really liked this slam poem. I enjoyed how you indented all of your lines, and wrote about your strength so passionately and said you will NOT let it go. Great work. You should record this and put it up as a podcast.

I love the poem: it's thoughtful, real, and tells a good and profound story. An idea for making it better would be to add very specific images and actions--some more simile and metaphors, etc.
